A celebration of life for Arthur W. Knowles, 85, a Minden resident for the past year, will be held at 7 p.m. today at Carson Valley United Methodist Church.
A second celebration of life will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Carbondale, Ill.
Mr. Knowles died Sept. 20, 2000 at his home. He was born Dec. 4, 1914, in Winsted, Conn., to William and Mary Devlin Knowles.
Before moving to Minden, he lived in Carbondale.
Mr. Knowles was a compositor for 46 years for several companies throughout the United States. He enjoyed reading and the outdoors. He was a Master Mason for 53 years and served in every office. He was a past member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Illinois, Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star in Illinois and a member of the Carson Valley United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia in February 2000 in Illinois; daughter Ruth Ann in 1938 in Rhode Island and sister Jennie.
Among his survivors are his daughters Joyce A. Shrum of Minden, Janet K. Ashcraft of Mt. Vernon, Ill., and Susan M. Barnhart of Sand Springs, Okla.; brother Lloyd R. of Providence, R.I.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
Memorial contributions may be made to a fund in his name at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church and the First Presbyterian Church.
