Obituary: George E. Ellis

George E. Ellis, 75, a Carson City resident for the past 26 years, died Aug. 15, 2000 at his home. He was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Earl C. and Ada Lucille Hawkins Ellis.

He married Dolores Schnell Oct. 22, 1945 in Los Angeles.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Oregon and Southern California.

Mr. Ellis was a retired machinist. He was a past member of VFW and BPO Elks Lodge No. 888 in Long Beach, Calif. He enjoyed all sports and was an avid fisherman.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 692nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, and he received the Bronze Star.

He was preceded in death by his brother Don and sister Dorothy.

Among his survivors are his wife Dolores Ellis of Carson City; son and wife Herb and Patty Ellis and Michael Ellis, all of Carson City; daughter, Carole Chamness of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister Wanda Fisher of Cheney, Wash. and grandsons Mike and George Ellis of Sacramento, Calif.

A private service was held.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
