Obituary: John A. Hamilton

A memorial service for John A. Hamilton Jr., 79, a Carson City resident for the past 29 years, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Mr. Hamilton died Dec. 2, 2000, at Washoe Medical Center. He was born March 4, 1921, in Leadville, Colo., to John A. Sr. and Elizabeth Bowen Hamilton.

He graduated from high school in Portola, Calif.

Mr. Hamilton worked for Western Pacific Railroad until World War II. He worked for Carson Furniture from 1971 until 1986 as a salesman and later as display manager and accessory buyer. He then started his own furniture repair business with his wife. He was a Roman Catholic. During his retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking for the church and others.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served on the USS Promtheus as first class petty officer. He later served in the Korean War on the USS Prairie.

He was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Donald.

Among his survivors are his wife of 45 years, Helen of Carson City; sons Juan of New York City and Erle Simpson of Reno; daughters Cheryl Rhib and grandson Steve Rhib, both of Concord, Calif.; brother Bull of Omaha, Neb.; sister Margaret Price of Pleasanton, Calif. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
