The Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission will consider today adding extra Quality of Life money to finish landscaping the east end of Mills Park.
Reconstruction of the Wungumea House and landscaping were estimated at $314,00, but will cost an extra $200,000 to add such things as sidewalks and volleyball courts.
The commission will also consider a final design for the proposed Mills Park arboretum. The city's Shade Tree Council approved the design. One resident expressed concerns over the variety of trees included in the proposal, and city officials expect to respond to his concerns today.
If the plan for the community arboretum is approved, new trees could be added to Mills Park by Arbor Day 2001. There is about $29,000 in funding for the arboretum, which won't pay for the entire plan, said city Park Planner Vern Krahn.
The commission also will consider its annual residential construction tax requests. The commission has almost $986,000 in requests and $225,000 with which to fund those requests. Requests range from Carson River Park improvements and community center theater equipment to an archery range for Centennial Park and Fuji Park playground equipment.
