Q-Tip: Fall turkey tags

Bird hunters are reminded that Aug. 25 is the deadline for receiving applications for the various 2000 Nevada fall wild turkey hunts.

Those applications must be received through an authorized mail service such as the U.S. Mail, FedEx, U.P.S. by no later than 5 p.m. on Aug. 25. They can not be hand-delivered or faxed.

They must be mailed to the Fallon Hunt Application Office, P.O. Box 1345, Fallon, 89407-1345.

There will be a total of 55 fall wild turkey tags for resident hunters to hunt on public lands. Those public lands hunts will be for five, different, one-week-long hunting periods.

Three separate fall hunts are available for the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area in Lyon County, near Yerington. A total of 15 tags for each of the three hunting periods will be available to resident hunters for Oct. 14-20, Oct. 20-27 and Oct. 28-Nov. 3.

Fall hunts will also be allowed in Moapa Valley of Clark County, northeast of Las Vegas. Five tags each will be issued for the two periods of Oct. 14-20 and Oct. 21-29.

Turkey tag applicants are allowed to choose up to five different hunting periods, however hunters may only obtain one tag for the fall hunt.

Those hunters who obtained a 2000 spring wild turkey tag, earlier this year, are not eligible to apply for the full hunts.

Residents and non-residents are only allowed one turkey tag per year of any type.

In addition, the fall turkey private lands hunt for the Lahontan (Valley) Recreation Area of Churchill County will be available to residents who have landowners' permission to hunt.

When applying for a wild turkey tag, there is a fee of $20, plus a non-refundable processing fee of $5. The tag fee will be refunded to all who are unsuccessful in drawing a tag.

The Nevada 2000 Fall Turkey Seasons brochures are available at all NDOW offices and hunting and fishing license outlets throughout the state.
