Wanna have a fun-filled evening in the near future?
Here is how to do so and you can do it right here in Carson:
On the night of Dec. 2, The Ormsby Sportsmen's Association (OSA) will hold its big, annual banquet at the Carson Nugget Convention Center.
If you have never attended this fun-filled evening, mark that date on your calendar.
By way of explanation, OSA is a local sportsmen's organization for hunters and fishermen. It has about 300 members. It is also one of the oldest sportsmen's clubs in the state, having been founded way back in August of 1945.
That Dec. 2 banquet, which is expected to attract about 100 persons, will begin with a no-host cocktail hour at 6:30 p.m.
The cocktails will be followed by a buffet dinner at 7:30. Then an evening of door prizes, raffle, live auction, introductions, serious presentations, "burn awards," etc.
All OSA members, their families, friends and anyone else interested in hunting and/or fishing are cordially invited to attend this banquet.
The cost is $17 per person.
Included in the evening's list of activities are a number of "burn" awards which are presented to some selected poor souls who have goofed up in the Great Outdoors during the year.
Those "burn" awards are highlighted by the less-than prestigious "You Screwed Up" award, which is presented to the club member with the biggest goof-up or most goof-ups of the year.
In addition, there will be awards for the winners in the many different fishing derby categories, the "Big Buck" contest and the always popular "Sure Shot" award.
Also included on the evening's agenda will be the introduction of the club's new president for 2001 and the introduction of the three newly-elected directors to the club's board of directors.
Here's a chance to mingle with fellow hunters and fishermen, to enjoy a great dinner and to win some nice raffle prizes or to bid on some attractive auction items.
As a bonus, you can also cheer or boo all the award winners, both in the serious and the not-so-serious categories.
It's a great way to have a lot of fun on a cold, wintry, early December night in Carson City. It sure beats home staring at the "Boob Tube."
So Mark the date of Dec. 2 on your calendar and plan to attend. It will be a blast.
