Reno-area chiropractor and wife convicted of tax evasion

RENO - An Incline Village chiropractor who practiced in Reno and his wife have been convicted of federal income tax evasion.

A federal jury in Reno returned the guilty verdicts late Wednesday for Martin P. and Nanja Rutherford, Incline Village, Nev., U.S. Attorney Kathryn Landreth said.

Rutherford operated a clinic called the Chiropractic Arts Center in Reno and his wife served as the office manager in 1992 and 1993. They were convicted of filing false tax returns in 1992 and failing to file returns in 1993.

They each face up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000.

The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service and prosecuted by the Western Criminal Enforcement Section of the Justice Department's Tax Division, Landreth said.
