WASHINGTON - Sens. Richard Bryan and Harry Reid, both D-Nev., have announced federal grants totaling $24.6 million designed to strengthen the state's economy and provide services to those in need.
Bryan said the money "will continue Nevada's commitment to further strengthening our economy, creating jobs and providing safe and affordable housing."
"This grant money will not only provide basic shelter for those who are less fortunate, but will also increase home ownership opportunities for low-income families in communities around Nevada," said Reid.
The grants are provided by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. Clark County will get $9.55 million and the state $6.35 million. Las Vegas will receive $4.92 million and Reno
$3.16 million. Finally, Sparks will get $562,000 from the program.
