Nevada Sens. Harry Reid and Richard Bryan Wednesday announced Nevada will receive a $1,156,000 grant to help improve investigation and prosecution of violent crimes against women.

Reid said the money will also "strengthen vital services that assist women who have been victims of crime."

The money comes under the Services, Training, Officers and Prosecution (STOP) program which they said funds partnerships between law enforcement, prosecutors, courts and victim advocates and was authorized through the Violence Against Women Act.

To date, Nevada has received some $4.6 million for STOP programs.

"domestic violence devastates thousands of women and their families throughout Nevada," said Bryan.

He said the money will help build on efforts to protect women, prosecute their offenders and prevent domestic violence.
