EUREKA, Mo. - A minivan and a tractor-trailer collided Monday on Interstate 44, killing two adults and three children and critically injuring another child.
All of the victims were in the van and were related, Highway Patrol Sgt. Terry St. Clair said. The injured child was hospitalized in extremely critical condition, St. Clair said.
The accident closed the westbound lanes of the interstate near the Six Flags Over St. Louis amusement park for several hours.
The van was in the right-hand lane when it struck the rear of another vehicle, St. Clair said. The impact forced the van to skid into the far left lane, where it was struck from behind by the truck, carrying 44,000 pounds of steel.
