Slumping Capitols lose two more

CORVALLIS, Ore. - All of a sudden, the Carson Capitols can't buy a win.

One week after winning their own Capitol Classic, the Caps are mired in a five-game losing skid on their swing through Oregon.

The Capitols (41-9) lost a pair of games to Corvallis on Saturday night, 14-4 in the opener and 10-9 in the second game. Coupled with two losses to Eugene on Friday night, the Capitols are now 1-6 on their road trip.

Carson managed only six hits in the first game, led by Dustin Hahn's 2-for-3 effort. Joe Jacobitz added a double as Capitols starter Jon Fender took the loss.

The Capitols rallied to tie the score twice in the second game, but they fell just short in the nightcap. Joe Mercer was 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Jacobitz had two doubles and two RBIs. Hahn also stroked two doubles and drove in a run.

The Capitols 7-4 and 13-6 to Eugene on Friday.

Carson managed only six hits against Eugene. Pat Reilly, Brian Kleidosty, and Brett McMillan each had RBI doubles.

In the first game, the Capitols scored 11 runs in the first four innings to jump out to an 11-3 lead over Springfield. They then added two more runs in the seventh to win comfortably.

Jacobitz went 3-for-5 with a home run, double, and three RBIs to lead the Caps. Kleidosty, who went 3-for-3, also had three RBIs.

The Capitols played a doubleheader Sunday afternoon, but no results were available at press time.
