The Carson City Airport Authority will have a special workshop Saturday morning to hash out any problems with the final draft of the airport's 10-year master plan.
The public workshop will run from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Bonanza Room at the Carson City Community Center, 861 E. William St.
Chairman David Corrao expects the workshop to be more housekeeping than any major last-minutes concerns with the master plan. The workshop will allow the authority's two newest members, Bob Thomas and Gene Sheldon, to familiarize themselves with the plan before the authority decides on the master plan Nov. 9.
"The workshop is an opportunity to make sure everybody has an opportunity to review the draft, preliminary master plan in a leisurely environment," Corrao said.
The most significant component of the master plan calls for realigning the runway in a more northwesterly direction to veer the flight path away from as many homes and industrial businesses as possible. The master plan also calls for opening the center of the airport to make public access to airport businesses easier.
Corrao said the master plan strives to achieve these things without having to condemn any homes.
He said the new master plan gets the airport back on track to grow with the community.
"The airport has not been well tended to as far as future growth for many years," Corrao said. "The city allowed growth around the airport. Because the community has grown up around us, there is a safety issue. The realignment makes the airport as safe as it can be."
