Oct. 21 was the opening day of the 2000-2001 tundra swan hunting season in the state of Nevada.

That season is open only for those hunters who possess a special tundra swan hunting tag. It is open only in Churchill, Lyon and Pershing Counties.

This season will close on Jan. 7.

Non-toxic shot is required in shotgun shells. Shotguns must be plugged to limit overall shot shell capacity to only three shells.

Successful tundra swan hunters are required to have their tags and swans validated at any of the following validation sites, within five days of harvest:

- Any regional NDOW office (weekdays).

- Stillwater (Weekends).

- Winnemucca Office (Weekdays).

- Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area (Weekdays).
