Two men pulled over for a traffic stop Tuesday night were arrested after a search of a car they were driving revealed dangerous weapons, including an explosive.
Donald David Timberman, 19, and Michael Franklin Reed, 28, were pulled over at 8:30 p.m. at Edmonds and Fairview drives in the car Reed was driving. The arresting officer reported seeing two baskets from Albertson's in the back seat of the car, with the men trying to cover them up. When asked, Reed reportedly admitted - and Timberman reportedly agreed - that they had stolen property from the grocery store.
A further search of the car revealed explosive blasting caps and burglary tools, reports indicate. The pair were both charged with shoplifting, burglary and possessing stolen property, explosives, burglary tools and a dangerous weapon - all felonies. Reed was additionally charged with speeding, the offense for which he was pulled over. Both men were held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Reed is listed as an unemployed drywall installer, while Timberman is listed as an unemployed mechanic. They both hail from Carson City.
Chief Deputy Scott Burau said the blasting caps, used as a detonation device for explosives, were turned over to the Douglas County Bomb Squad where they were destroyed.
The caps were electronically controlled, reports indicate.
