Washoe County commissioners have decided to name their new Regional Juvenile Justice Center in memory of Assemblywoman Jan Evans.
Evans was a leader in children's issues from foster case, abuse and neglect to juvenile justice and education. She chaired the Legislative Commission's study of the juvenile justice system in 1998 and sponsored a measure during the 1999 session to help Washoe County fund the new center to replace Wittenberg Hall.
Evans died earlier this year of cancer.
