Not only that, but two names with connections to men's distance running at the University of Nevada.

Tim Minor, a standout at Nevada in the 1970s, ran to first-place in the 10-kilometer cross country race at Silver Oak Golf Course. And the overall 5-K winner was Ron Tibaduiza, whose father, Domingo, another Nevada star during the '70s and a four-time Olympian for Colombia.

Overall, the Carson City Striders-sponsored event attracted nearly 150 runners and walkers, ranging in age from 6-year-old Peter Brinson to 73 years young Boyce Jacques.

Tibaduiza, a state 3,200-meter track champion at Wooster High School in 1998 and now preparing to run for Fresno State University, won the 5K in 17:34. Brett Ferrier, a senior at Lowry High, was second in 18:16.
