A Carson City man was booked into jail early Saturday after allegedly threatening a convenience store clerk who had reported his wife as a possible intoxicated driver.
William Steven McHaney II, 28, was arrested at 6:20 a.m. at Plaza and Ann streets for investigation of felony intimidating a witness and felony making a threat to life or property and was held on $15,000 bail.
According to the arrest report, he had entered a store at Carson and William streets and said to the clerk, "You're the one that called the cops on my wife. If this goes to court, you better watch your back because you are dead."
The store clerk told deputies that McHaney then stood outside the store looking at the clerk through the window, which made the clerk feel intimidated. A videotape that recorded the conversation was obtained from the store and booked as evidence, according to the arrest report.
Jannett Fay McHaney, 24, of Carson City was arrested in the store's parking lot at 5:26 a.m. for investigation of first-offense driving under the influence and was held on $1,000 bail. The arrest report said she failed field sobriety tests and then consented to breath alcohol tests, with results of .147 percent and .149 percent blood alcohol concentrations.
