Join park rangers of the Sugar Pine Point California State Park for an avalanche clinic and cross country ski trek on Saturday.
The free, 3-mile trek will begin at the park which is located 10 miles south of Tahoe City, Calif. It is on S.R. 89 on the west side of Lake Tahoe.
This clinic, which is a "must" for the backcountry traveler, will cover important aspects of avalanche awareness. Those aspects will include slope evaluations, weather factors, snow pack stability, rescue techniques and self rescue.
The degree of cross country skiing difficulty is rated as "easy."
Anyone interested in the clinic is requested to meet at the Sugar Pine Point ski trail parking lot near the campground kiosk at 10 a.m.
They are requested to bring their own cross country ski equipment, avalanche beacon (optional), lunch, drinks, and to wear layered clothing for variable weather conditions.
