Biddlecome, Senators snowball over Douglas

A pretty fair snowball fight broke out between the Carson and Douglas high school boys basketball teams on Friday night.

The two teams went back and forth through the better part of three quarters, but then Lee Biddlecome and the Carson Senators got some momentum going in the fourthand kept right on rolling to a 72-54 Northern 4A Division II victory before a near capacity crowd at Morse Burley Gymnasium.

Biddlecome scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to ignite a 27-point outburst during the period that enabled the Senators to break open what had been a real scrap between the two neighborhood rivals.

"Give Douglas a helluva of a lot of credit, they came out and played hard," Carson coach Tom Andreasen said. "That was a tough game, and now, we have to focus up on Tahoe."

Carson (5-2, 14-8) travels to South Tahoe (6-1) today for a 5 p.m. contest between teams fighting for second-place in Division II.

Even though Douglas dropped to 1-7 in the division (7-13 overall), coach Keith Lewis wasn't disappointed with the effort put forth by the Tigers. First of all, this was a far cry from the 68-40 game Carson won in Minden on Jan. 11.

"I was proud of all our kids. The final score was not indicative of the way the game was played," said Lewis, whose Tigers only trailed by a 33-32 score midway through the third quarter. "I told them before the game to come out and play hard to put themselves in a position to win at the end, and they did that."

The 6-foot-9 Biddlecome finished the night with 22 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots to lead Carson's charge against Douglas.

"Lee played very well. They tried a lot of different things to stop him and he still got his points," Andreasen said. "But this was no one-man show. Everyone played well."
