Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., and Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., will testify today in support of a bill designed to simplify Douglas County's dealings with federal land managers.
The measure moves the boundary of the Toiyabe National Forest to give the Bureau of Land Management control over certain agricultural conservation easements bordering the national forest. Gibbons said that will make sure those lands will continue to be used only for commercial agriculture.
Bryan introduced the legislation saying it would enable private land owners in Douglas County to work with just one federal agency instead of two. If approved, private landowners in Douglas County will only have to deal with BLM in acquiring easements.
"This bill helps pave the way for purchasing conservation easements that will greatly benefit the residents of the Carson Valley," said Gibbons.
The bill will be heard by the House Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health in Washington D.C.
