A Carson City mechanic was killed Friday evening when a car he was working on fell off a hydraulic-lift rack.

Jacob Coyle, 20, worked with his father at Brake and Alignment Plus at 910 Corbett Street near Roop Street. Firefighter and paramedic personnel responded to reports of a man trapped under a fallen car at 6:45 p.m.

An attempt to revive Coyle using CPR failed and he died shortly after 7 p.m., still inside the shop.

Carson City Detective Steve Johnson was called to the scene to investigate the death. He said the location was still being studied to determine the cause of death. However, he did say that it appeared to be accidental.

"When it is not an expected death, we have to do a death investigation before we disclose any information about the circumstances," Johnson said. "This fits under suspicious or accidental."

When emergency personnel arrived, the car had already been lifted off Coyle with two hand-operated jacks. It is unknown whether the hydraulic lift failed.

CareFlight personnel from Washoe County made a landing on Corbett Street near the bay doors of the shop, but were turned back shortly after 7 p.m.
