Freeway utility construction moves to Northgate Lane today.
College Parkway should be open to four lanes today except for a small section near Northgate Lane.
Northgate will be closed between College Parkway and Arrowhead Drive. Only residential traffic will be allowed. Northgate will be closed for three or four weeks. Traffic will be detoured using Emerson Drive.
Carson City Construction Manager John Benzing said a trench would be dug down Northgate and houses will be connected to a new sewer system. There will be disruptions to service, but those affected will be notified beforehand. Crews will also be replacing a water main in the freeway right of way which crosses Northgate. Two flaggers will be on the street to control residential traffic.
"We're hoping this is a little more trouble free than Emerson," Benzing said. "It's going to have a lot of dust and noise, all the regular stuff that takes place on a construction site. But I told the crews this is a residential area first and construction site second."
State overlay projects for Carson Street, College Parkway and Highway 395 South in Douglas County will begin after July 4.
Work on freeway drainage continues with no closures.
