SPARKS- Dayton High School got good production from Jennifer Dillie and Jeanette Macall, but it wasn't enough to avoid a 56-45 non-league girls' basketball loss to Reed on Tuesday.
Dillie scored 17 points for Class 3A Dayton (8-8), while Macall added 13 against the 4A Raiders. The Dust Devils, who never led, rallied to within four points late in the third quarter before Dillie was called for her fourth foul.
Dayton coach Kathy Jones was forced to bench her senior forward for the rest of the quarter because of the foul trouble.
"We really thought we could go in there and tie it up," Jones said.
Dillie started the fourth quarter, but she fouled out with five minutes left in the game.
Cayla Reese grabbed eight rebounds, while Dillie and Macall each had three steals for the Dust Devils. LaTasha Thompson added nine points.
"We played a really hard defensive game," Jones added.
Misty Nguyen led Reed with 19 points.
Dayton resumes 3A Division II play when it travels to face Mineral County at 6 p.m. Friday.
