It's "Stack the Stands Night." It's the canned food drive night. But most importantly, today marks another chapter in the Douglas and Carson high school basketball rivalry.
The tripleheader begins at 3:45 p.m. with the boys junior varsity; the girls varsity game begins at 5:15 p.m., while the boys varsity will tip off at 7 p.m.
With the Tigers on the schedule for the Senators, the stands were sure to be packed in Morse Burley Gym even without the Carson student body's Stack the Stands promotion.
The schools are also promoting a canned food drive tonight in which fans who donate a food item will receive $1 off their admission.
The girls game promises to influence the Northern 4A Division II standings more than the boys game.
The Douglas girls (4-3, 15-6 overall) enter tonight's play just one-half game behind the Senators (4-2, 19-5) in the Division II standing. A win by the Tigers would leap-frog Douglas past Carson and into second place in the division standings.
The Tiger boys (1-6, 7-12) need to upset Carson (4-2, 13-8) tonight if they are going to prolong their hopes of reaching the zone playoffs. Douglas currently trails Hug (3-5) by 1.5 games in the battle for the division's fourth and final berth in the zone playoffs.
The Carson boys, who lost to Reno on Tuesday by 14 points, 76-62, need a win tonight to generate some momentum before heading up the hill to play South Tahoe tomorrow at 5 p.m. The Vikings are in second place in Division II.
