A strong finish and a several key forfeits were the difference as Douglas High School's wrestlers opened their season with a big upset over Fallon, which finished second as a team at state last season.
The Tigers (1-0) won three of the final four decisions, starting with Drew Hall's 2-1 victory at 160 pounds. Nathan Bennett followed with a pin at 171, and at 189 John Hillenbrand won 7-6.
Carl Wymer lost his match 1-0 at 215, but the match was already sealed by then because Tiger Chris Baumgartner was guaranteed a win in his heavyweight match due to a forfeit.
Steve Magee was another winner for the Tigers, winning his match 5-2 at 125.
Douglas picked up three forfeit wins earlier in the match. Tim O'Brien (103), Romaine Smokey (119) and Richard Blackowl (130) all picked up default wins.
David Tingle lost his 145 match by decision, 11-6. Four other Tigers lost their matches by pin, enabling the Greenwave to keep the team score close.
Douglas also defeated Fallon in the junior varsity match. The Tigers take to the mat again Saturday at the Yerington tournament, which begins at 9 a.m.
