Fishing report for week of 02/16

BLUE LAKES (UPPER AND LOWER): No report.

BOCA RESERVOIR: No report.

CAPLES LAKE: No report.

DAVIS LAKE: No report.

EAGLE LAKE: No report.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: No report.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords General Store at Woodfords, Calif. reported, "Indian Creek Reservoir is ice-free and the fishing is picking up. We've got a guy who fishes it almost every day and he has been catching 2-3 rainbow trout each day. He has been using Kastmaster lures or Maribou jigs. His trout have been in the 1-2 pound class. Last week, another angler fishing from shore on the east side caught a 4.5 pound rainbow with Power Bait."

PYRAMID LAKE: According to the Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks, "Jigs seem to be working best at the present time, both from shore and from boats. Shore anglers were using a bucktail jig. They were casting the jig out and then retrieving it with a slow, jerking action. Boaters were jigging vertically with a new type of spoon known as "Duh" spoon."

It was reported that no one place was currently red hot. Gillys advice was to seek out the cutthroat at various locations and to hopefully be in the right place at the right time.

RED LAKE: No report.

SACRAMENTO RIVER: No report.

SILVER LAKE: No report.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: No report.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters of Carnelian Bay, North Lake Tahoe said, "We've been catching limits of average sized Mackinaw trout, up to 6 pounds. We've been tagging and releasing Macks each day. My fishermen are fishing in 250-450 feet of water, very early in the morning, in front of the Carnelian Bay-King's Beach area. They have been trolling with Herring Dodger flasher blades with either pearl-colored Apex lures or live minnows.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: No report.

TOPAZ LAKE: Linda Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina checked in with this report "Fishing was about the same as the previous week. Shore fishing was still slow. Boaters said that they were having to work a little bit longer to catch their fish."

The boats were trolling in the middle of the lake at a depth of about 10 feet deep. The rainbows were in the 1-1.5 pound class. According to Fields, "Those rainbows were very nice, pretty-looking fish."

WALKER LAKE: Bob Tompkins of the Walker Lake Guide Services reported, "Saturday, there were only thee boats on the entire lake. I had three clients in my boat and they caught a total of 10 cutthroat, up to 6 pounds. We trolled the "Cliff" area on the west side, along the buoy line on the south end and along the east shore. Our best action was with chrome and rainbow Flatfish lures and fire-tiger, broken-back Flatfish. We also used small, pearl-colored Apex lures and Triple Teasers."

He said that one of the other two boats fished on the north end of the lake and in four hours of trolling, the three anglers from Bishop, Calif. only caught three trout.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: On Monday morning, Dennis Dunn of the Wild Horse Resort said, "We got about 6-8 inches of new snow last night. The wind blew hard all night. But right now, it is dead calm and the sun is shining. We've got about 18-20 inches of ice on the reservoir. The fishing has been GREAT, especially for perch. Three fishermen came in late yesterday afternoon with five, five-gallon buckets full of perch, up to about 11 inches in size. They were still filleting those perch at 9:30 last night. They caught them on worms with Power Bait or marshmallows."
