FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR: Wiggin's Trading Post of Chilcott, Calif. reported that the fishing has been pretty good when it has not been windy.

Campgrounds are not officially open yet but dry camping is allowed in the unlocked campgrounds.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords General Store gave this report, "There were some nice fish taken this last weekend. The fishermen were each averaging about 2-3 trout. One angler took a 3.6 pound rainbow on an inflated nightcrawler.

Two fly fishermen walked into Summit Lake on Saturday evening. They each caught and released three trout on black or green wet flies.

PYRAMID LAKE: The Gilly Sporting Goods Store in Sparks provided this report, "The Nets and Popcorn are the two best areas right now. The fly fishermen have really been hammering the fish. They have been catching cutthroat trout, up to 15 pounds. They have been using dark-colored Woolly Bugger flies.

Boat trollers have been doing well with Apex, Flatfish, Kwikfish, Rapala or Tor-P-Do lures.

Shore fishermen have actually been doing better than trollers. They have been casting Tor-P-Do lures."

RED LAKE: Was still frozen but the ice is very unsafe. Last Wednesday, Don Quilici of Carson City and Doug Busey of Douglas County walked a short distance out onto the ice to check its thickness. On their return to shore, they both broke through the ice, next to the shoreline, into about two feet of water.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR: No report.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore: Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters said that he has been picking up easy limits of average sized Mackinaw trout, up to 6 pounds. His clients have been fishing in 250-450 feet of water, very early in the morning, in front of the Carnelian Bay-Kings Beach area. They have been trolling with Herring Dodger flasher blades with pearl-colored Apex lures or live minnows.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore: No report.

Mike Nielsen of the Tahoe Topliners at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. said, "Fishing is not too bad right now. We're catching mostly Mackinaw trout in the 3-4 pound class with an occasional rainbow. We're trolling on the south end of the lake in 70 feet of water. We're using Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows. Thursday, we caught an 8-pound Mack."

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina reported, "We had a nice rainbow caught out here. Steve Walker of South Lake, Utah caught a 4-pound, 10-ounce rainbow while still-fishing from his boat.

Shore fishing is pretty slow right now but when they do catch a fish, it is a nice one.

Boaters are doing good with lots of limits of rainbows in the 1-1 /4 pound class. They are trolling about 10 feet deep with flasher blades and Needlefish lures. The best fishing has been right in the middle of the lake toward the south end."

WALKER LAKE: Bob Tompkins of the Gun and Tackle Store in Hawthorne checked in with with this report, "Fishing is currently fair to good. Anglers are catching 2-3 fish per day and the cutthroat are running 3-4 pounds, with a sprinkling of larger ones.

Ron Borst of Reno caught a 7.5 pounder while trolling in shallow water on the east side with a Chartreuse/black dot Tor-P-Do lure.

Beth Doyle of Hawthorne caught a 6.6 pounder while trolling in shallow water on the east side with a green/black dot Tor-P-Do."

Tompkins also said that Weber Reservoir is slowly beginning to pick up for catfish.

He reported that the "Elbow" area of the East Walker River is producing 1-2 pound fish on nightcrawlers, Panther-Martin lures or Mepps spinners.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR: Dennis Dunn of the Wildhorse Resort gave this weekly update, "The weather has warmed up and the ice is going pretty fast. We've got about one mile of open water along the edge of the reservoir. Boats should be able to venture out onto the water in about 10 days. The shore fishermen are catching easy limits of rainbows and German browns, up to 20 inches. They are fishing on the bottom with a combination of worms and corn.
