After a windy beginning to the week, Carson Country residents can finally expect a calm week's end, said National Weather Service forecaster Dave Pike.
He said earlier this week, wind gusts in the lower valleys ranged from 60 mph to 80 mph in several areas, peaking in Kingsbury at 91 mph.
"It looks like it's going to be fairly quiet through Dec. 8," Pike predicted. "That's when the next system is expected."
According to National Weather Service statistics, average temperatures in the area are usually in the upper 40s.
He said today's temperatures for the valleys should be slightly above average in the lower 50s.
Wind gusts are not expected to exceed a relatively calm 10 mph to 20 mph.
Karl Walquist, spokesman for Sierra Pacific Power Co., said power outages due to downed lines plagued the Carson and Minden areas during the weekend.
He said that an unrelated power outage on Wednesday about 11 a.m. was due to repairs at the company's Carson substation.
About 1,600 customers in northeast Carson City lost power for less than a minute.
