A free golf tournament benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada is being held Sunday at Eagle Valley Golf Club.
Eagle Valley is donating the East Course for the "Community Appreciation Tournament," according to Eagle Valley Golf Pro Greg Carter.
The tournament filled up a few days after the announcement, Carter said.
"We've got a full field of 144 golfers, the spots were gone after two or three days," he said. "There will be no charges for the green fees or carts for the tournament."
The Boys & Girls Club sold tee signs for the tournament, and it will sell mulligans for $10 as well as sausages along the course.
"The Sausage Factory donated a whole bunch of sausages," said Mark Jacoby of the Boys & Girls Club. "We're hoping they buy the mulligans and a couple of sausages."
The club is also sponsoring two contests during the tournament, which will also help raise money. For a fee, golfers can participate in closest-to-the-pin and longest-drive contests. Jacoby said the revenue from these contests will go to the club.
Carson City car dealership owner Dick Campagni has donated a $20,000 vehicle for the first person to make a hole in one at the 12th hole on Sunday, Jacoby said.
"The key here is that the Eagle Valley Golf Club, the men's club and the ladies' club are giving back to the community," Jacoby said. "They're giving something back to the golfers and thinking of the kids. There are not too many courses that will give away free golf."
The tournament's format will be an 18-hole scramble, where team members continually play the best shot each turn.
The men's and ladies' clubs from Eagle Valley will have an information booth about joining those groups at the course.
For those who missed the tournament signups, the driving range will be open all day for free, Carter said.
