Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., will be a member of the bipartisan Special Oversight Panel on reorganization of the Department of Energy.

"This is a great opportunity to make sure Nevada's voice is heard," said Gibbons, who was picked for his background in the military and intelligence fields. He said he will make sure Nevada's concerns, especially regarding the Nevada Test Site, are heard during the discussions.

The special panel was organized to help implement DOE reorganization proposals mandated by the new National Defense Authorization Act. That legislation sets up the National Nuclear Security Administration as a new, semi-autonomous agency within DOE to better manage and secure U.S. nuclear weapon stockpiles.
