Two men grabbed a 17-year-old girl and attempted to drag her into a van Tuesday in an apparent kidnapping attempt, police said.

The woman, who was working in the area near the 3600 block of South Carson Street, was accosted by two men who grabbed her by her arm and shirt until she was able to break free of their grasp, said Chief Sheriff's Deputy Bernie Curtis.

After the incident, the girl reportedly ran to a store near the parking lot where the incident occurred and called the sheriff's department.

"This is the real deal," Curtis said. "It sounds like she outfoxed the suspects."

The two men, both described as Hispanic and in their 20s, were driving a brown van with a white stripe. They reportedly spoke to the victim in Spanish.

One man was wearing a brown shirt, black dress slacks, with slicked back hair, brown eyes and a goatee. The other man had a white T-shirt, black jeans, no facial hair, slicked back hair and blackish teeth.

Curtis said a search of the area did not reveal any suspects and investigators are still awaiting the results of a forensic examination of minor cuts the victim sustained during the struggle.

"The descriptions and the van is about all we have to go on," he said.

Later in the afternoon, three sheriff's deputies and a Tri-Net agent pulled over a van matching the description in the parking lot at the Carson City Community Center. Two suspects were detained at gunpoint.

After they realized they had the wrong men, deputies released them, Curtis said.
