Nicole Freeman and Brandi Cotroneo combined to bang out seven hits and drive in four runs as the Carson High School softball team breezed to a 13-3 season-opening victory at home against Hug on Thursday afternoon.
The Senators erupted to score eight runs in the fifth inning to break open a 2-1 pitchers duel and pull away in the Northern 4A contest.
Freeman went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Cotroneo 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Carson's 16-hit attack. Kellie Karasek, Chrissy Joseph and Vicki Parsons delivered two hits each.
Melissa Stone pitched a complete game six-hitter to pick up the win. Stone struck out seven and walked three along the way.
The Seantors host Elko for a noon conference doubleheader on Saturday.
