Historic lecture series

The Gold Hill Hotel will offer a new series of Tuesday night historic lectures and dinners starting tonight.

Greg and Pat McMaster will again host the event and have lined up an interesting set of lecturers, talks and events.

The first four are: Tonight, Guy Rocha - "More and Better Myths Debunked." Rocha is a long-time resident of Nevada and has given many enjoyable lectures at the Gold Hill Hotel. He likes to tell the "true" history of Nevada.

Feb. 15, Jim Schryver - "Adolf Sutro - The Tunneling Man of the Comstock." Schryver will show slides of the Sutro Tunnel and knows his subject well. A resident of Nevada for 26 years, he has the Crown Point Mining Co. which was founded in 1867 and is the oldest surviving company in the U.S.

Feb. 22, Bob Stewart - "Aurora." Stewart has been doing research on Aurora

for 30 years. His lecture will take a look at life on and off the Comstock during

the territorial years.

Feb. 29, John Tyson and Friends - "Cowboy Music and Poetry." Tyson is a

working cowboy who also works at News Channel 8 doing Tales of the West. He has three video tapes available about his stories of the Comstock.

For these lectures, the lecture alone is $4; the lecture with dinner ranges from $8 to $15.50 depending on the type of entree.

A printed flyer for the complete schedule of lectures to July 18 and of future events is available at the Gold Hill Hotel. Dinners start at 5 p.m. (family style seating) and the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. and lasts around 90 minutes, including questions and discussion.

The popular "What is it?" will also be back.
