Pennies from heaven couldn't have been received with more open arms.
A Wal-Mart holiday promotion netted the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada more than $3,000.
"What a wonderful holiday dream come true," said Suzi Meehan, executive director for the Carson City museum.
The money comes from a nationwide promotion by Wal-Mart in which each store donates a percentage of sales to a local charity. For Carson City, it was the Children's Museum.
"Thanks to the support of our customers, we are proud to give the Children's Museum some recognition and financial support," said General Manager Mike Ray. "Our associates selected this charity because of the tremendous contribution it makes to the children of this community."
Immediately following the Monday presentation the Image Jazz Choir entertained with holiday music.
This marks the seventh holiday season that Wal-Mart has contributed to local charities. The company started the tradition in 1991. In addition to the charities, Wal-Mart also shares a special tie with the Salvation Army as a national sponsor of the Red Kettle Campaign. The Salvation Army collects millions of dollars in front of Wal-Mart stores and SAM's Clubs each year. Last year, Wal-Mart contributed more than $4.5 million to non-profit organizations.
Wal-Mart Stores operates more than 2,400 stores in the United States.
