Organizers of the Capital City Humane Society took their first steps to formally establish a Carson City chapter of the animal protection group Friday.

Chapter President Isabel Young and board member Lois Barr started the application process, picking up paperwork to create a non-profit group from Secretary of State Dean Heller. They are planning a dinner, dance and fashion show Feb. 12 at the Ormsby House to raise money for the group.

That event is a joint fund-raiser with CASA, which provides court-appointed advocates for juveniles in neglect and abuses cases.

Tickets for the event are $30, available at the Nevada Appeal, Sasha's, Sidestreet Boutique, Nevada State Bank and the Jewelry Bench. The event will feature music by Brian Farnon's orchestra from 6-8 p.m. and Craig Fletcher from 8-10 p.m.

The door prize is a sapphire and diamond pendant necklace.
