Hyatt regency to open at Lake Las Vegas

HENDERSON - The area's newest hotel-casino will try to stake a claim to the upscale market far away from the Las Vegas Strip.

The Hyatt Regency at Lake Las Vegas will offer 496 rooms with an upscale golf theme at the luxury development outside of Las Vegas on the way to Lake Mead.

Hyatt General Manager Mark Heinzelman says the $150 million property will be fully operational when it opens its door Friday morning.

He said the Hyatt won't repeat the mistake made by The Resort at Summerlin and The Venetian, both of which were subjected to criticism for opening properties that weren't completely finished.

The hotel-casino is located amid a 2,245-acre resort with million-dollar homes and a private and public golf course.

With room rates at $200 a night, the Hyatt joins an elite company of hotels such as the Resort at Summerlin, the Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay, The Venetian and Bellagio that have redefined Las Vegas by offering elegant accommodations to lure wealthy customers.

The 9,500-square-foot casino, with 191 slot machines and 11 tables, is located to the side of the main entrance and is naturally lit through bay windows overlooking the manmade lake.

There is also a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, four restaurants, a 21,000-square-foot ballroom with 10 additional meeting rooms, a lakeside wedding gazebo, 47 suites and 10 two- and three-bedroom casitas. l
