Jackson Wins Open Outlaw Feature at Fuji Park

The Super Outlaw Kart program provided lots of action for fans at Fuji Park Saturday night.

Don Jackson of Gardnerville took advantage on a restart to shoot to the front in the 20-lap open outlaw main, which was marred by a red flag for a two-kart accident involving Jackson's son Cheyne and Reno's Devlin. Both drivers were uninjured, but their karts sustained too much damage to continue.

While Jackson showed his heels to the field, Carson City's Bill Brown struggled unsuccessfully to get past Stuart Goehring of Tahoe Paradise, who finished second. Brown had seemingly been invincible earlier in

the evening, taking the trophy dash and winning his heat race in dominating fashion, but he had to settle for third-place in the main. David Yochum of Carson City took fourth, with Reno's Greg Knight rounding out the top five.

Randy Devlin of Reno won the first heat race, and qualified for his first trophy dash, finishing second to Brown. Qualifying was scrubbed due to technical problems with the timing system, and the heat order was set by draw.

The box stock class saw a new winner in the trophy dash and heat races, and a familiar face in the winner's spot in the main.

Kyle Lever of Minden, in his second season of racing, won the second heat and went on to take the trophy dash as well.

Carson City racer Jordan Dargert continued his winning ways in the main, coming from the back twice on restarts to take the checkered flag. A brand-new engine, built by Tom Purcell, apparently needed a little break-in time during the heat races, but it was in full song for the main.

James Harrington of Carson City was second, followed by Zephyr Cove's Nathan Buffa in third, Lever in fourth, and Carson City's Matt Valerino rounding out the top five. Johnny Harrington of Gardnerville won the first heat race.

Only two 125 outlaws made the field, the brother-sister team of Joshua and Samantha Diel from Corning, Calif. Joshua bested his sister in the trophy dash, heat and main.

A new class for the 2000 season, the beginner outlaws for first-time youngsters, also saw two entrants. Nicole Buffa took the heat race win when Alex Devlin slowed on the last lap, but Devlin came back to take the win in

the trophy dash and the main.

The Super Outlaw Karts race again on July 1. Qualifying starts at 6 p.m., with racing at 7.
