A Carson City man was arrested at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday near the 200 block of East Adams Street on suspicion of domestic battery, extortion, threats and fighting in public.
Robin Glen James, 34, was taken into custody after deputies responded to reports of a domestic altercation.
According to the report, the victim told deputies James hit her in the face, a charge which they say he later admitted.
The victim told officials the argument had started over money. She said James asked for $5 and when she refused, he became violent.
When she told him she had no money, except for her grocery fund, he reportedly threw the TV, VCR and entertainment center across the room. He then opened the hood of the victim's car and ripped the wires out of the ignition coil, making it impossible for her to drive the vehicle.
Deputies said James has a prior arrest on charges of domestic violence.
The property destruction amounted to extortion which mandates $25,000 bail. The other charges total $3,600 in bail.
