Kahle Community Park Phase II update

STATELINE - In just a few months, the second phase of Kahle Community Park development has transformed the peaceful park area into a bustling construction site.

Without interruption to the regularly scheduled activities at the community center, gray concrete block walls for the new facility are rising quickly and the separate rest room and storage facility are nearly complete. According to project manager Scott McCullough, the summer's end construction cut-off date will be met with time to spare.

"Things are going great, ahead of schedule even," McCullough said. "Getting the building weather-tight before winter, so we can work on the interior throughout that time is a great motivator for the construction team. If the weather cooperates, we're looking at opening doors by summertime, if not earlier."

The $2.2 million project, initially scheduled for completion by fall 2000, includes a regulation-size basketball court, two non-regulation volleyball courts, an elevated indoor jogging track, a weight room and cardiovascular workout area, a climbing wall, a children's playroom, additional parking, meeting rooms and an outdoor rest room and storage facility.

The new building, built directly adjacent to the main facility, will resemble the existing architecture, with green metal siding and a metal roof.

Ground was originally broken for the 14,000-square-foot project in 1998, but further construction was delayed due to funding problems. Those uncertainties were eliminated through the Douglas County sale of bonds and additionally pledged revenues from the Room Tax Fund.
