The fourth annual Shasta Lake King Salmon Fishing Derby will be held on June 4 this year.
Shasta Lake is located near Redding in Northern California.
The king salmon fishing derby is the largest fishing event of its kind in the state of California.
The entry fee is $65 per angler.
This year, cash prizes will total over $6,000. That money will be awarded to the top fifteen anglers who catch the heaviest king salmon during the two days.
The first place winner will win $1,000, second place wins $500, third takes home $450, fourth $400 and the way down to 15th which is worth $125.
In addition, there will be 10 special drawings of $50 each for those anglers who get skunked on that day.
According to Rod Browning, President of California Inland Fisheries Foundation (CIFFI), Project Kokanee/Project King Salmon, "The money raised at fund raising events such as this derby will help CIFFI continue its work in partnership with the California Department of Fish and Game.
Browning said, "In our short history, we have helped in egg collection, artificial spawning, habitat improvement, hatchery construction, equipment and improvements. We have financed the rearing, raising and planting of more than nine million Kokanee salmon and hundred of thousands of king salmon over the past seven years."
