Robert Kline will return as director of competition at Silver State Raceway, and Tom Price will continue as technical inspector for the 2000 racing season.
"We want to let the race fans know, as well as the drivers, that we're back for another year," said Kline. "We're going to take racing to the next level. We had a pretty good year last year and it can only get better. "
Track officials will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. today for drivers and car owners at the Ormsby House Hotel/Casino, on the second floor. Kline and Price will cover the racing schedule, racing rules and clarifications to some of the rules in the track's rules and regulations book.
"We didn't change anything (in the rules) that would cost a driver money," said Price. "We just clarified them. There were some gray areas that caused problems last year. We did away with those."
"We know where we made our mistakes (officiating) last year," said Kline. "We know what areas we need to work on and we have a plan in place to take care of them."
One change to the rules include body style. Truck bodies will be allowed to run in the late model sportsman class. Ride height of the cars must be 4 inches all around; A-frames must be tubular; adjustable sway bars will be allowed, as will rocker arms in the motor.
Safety provisions include requirement of an aluminum driver's seat for the late model sportsman, and all classes must have a 1990 or newer Snell safety rated helmet.
"We're not going to take any chances on the safety of our drivers," said Kline. "They are our number one concern."
Price said most of the changes in rules for the maverick division are safety adjustments. One modification to the engine rules include the return to a two-barrel carburetor and manifold. No Holly carbs, factory or not, and no headers, factory or not.
All rules and regulations may be discussed at the meeting, drivers are encouraged to attend so there will be no miscommunication. Kline also welcomes anyone who may be interested in being part of the track officiating crew.
Needed are scorekeepers, scoreboard operator and track crew. Only reliable, dedicated persons age 18 or older need apply.
