Letter: fifth grader wants information

I am a fifth-grade student at Thornell Road School in Pittsfield, N.Y. I have been studying the state of Nevada and am very interested in learning more about your area. Would you please send me back some information about your town?

Some of the things I would like to know are: How big is your town? What is your climate like? What do people do for a living? Is your town busy? Do you have any tourist attractions? What's your town's history? What important things have happened recently in your town? Do you have much crime in your town?

Let me tell you a little bit about my town, Pittsford. Pittsford is about 15 miles from Rochester. Sport events are very popular in Pittsford like soccer, football, baseball and ice hockey. Some of our parents work at Xerox, Kodak, Eastman and Bausch and Lomb. Some are also doctors and lawyers. Pittsford is located on the Erie Canal. The canal is fun because you can walk alongside it, buy ice cream, go shopping and ride on a huge boat called the Colonial Belle. In the winter, I ski at Bristol Mountain, and in the summer, I swim in Lake Ontario. We have a couple of amusement parks. Susan B. Anthony lived in New York, too.

I would really appreciate it if you would publish my letter in your newspaper. This would help me learn more about your state.
