I must ask you to bear with this letter that I write with deep heartfelt feelings as I say goodbye to Snoopy and his friends. So many of us will miss them, and I am thankful Schulz was able to let us have this lovely association with his characters these many years. I wish I were able to let him know the pleasure he has given to the world, and he will be sorely missed.
My children made Snoopy's acquaintance when they were very little, and I am not ashamed to admit I grew old with him. The world today is so different, but the affection felt for Snoopy grew along with the years. At 91, I feel as though I have lost a poignant part of my life.
I am not senile, and I am sincere in these observations. God bless you, dear Charles Schulz and ease your pain. You have been a rainbow to many of us. Perhaps Snoopy and Woodstock and the others will meet many of us in a heavenly reunion.
