Another Memorial Day, formerly called Decoration Day, was remembered here at Carson Plaza Retirement Center where I reside with a deeply sincere memorial service held on the lawn under our flag pole area. It was a stirring and somber event and the emotions and memories moved many who were veterans or who had given their sons or daughters to the many wars.
Our trumpeteer, Don Brooks, rendered taps for the fallen men and women and then to lighten a little the sad mood, he played several patriotic tunes for the different services.
One of our managers (Robert Ruthford) at the Plaza gave us a most interesting story in history about the beginning of this day. Many of our residents who attended our ceremony lifted their voices in singing so it softened a little of the horror in years gone by.
