I am writing concerning a police report published on June 20 concerning police reporting to a fight involving a 21-year-old girl at the Old Globe bar on Sunday morning at 1:38 a.m. I was on the telephone to my son at the time (he now runs the establishment) when the bartender came into his office and reported that there was a fight going on in the area on Curry Street. This did not involve the Old Globe Saloon but came from an adjoining business. We closed our premises so as not to be involved even though our saloon was busy with customers from the Taste of Downtown festival. This was done so that the disturbance would not spill into our saloon as has happened in the past when police have come to the area.
Readers of the police reports will see that police are often called to the area, but this rarely involves the Old Globe. Our family has operated the old Globe for 49 years, and we like to think that we are assisting adjoining businesses in being part of the solution and not the problem in "cleaning up" this area.
