As a retired 100 percent service-connected disabled veteran, I express appreciation to Sen. Harry Reid for introducing the amendment to the Defense Appropriation Bill that would allow concurrent receipt of military retired pay and VA disability pay. I urge you to support this legislation.
Retired veterans are the only group in this nation not allowed to collect retired pay and disability pay. This injustice is an insult to those who dedicated their lives to preserve freedom for our nation and all its citizens.
As the former commander of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) for the state of Nevada, former president of the Carson City Chapter of the Retired Officers Association (TROA), and member of American Legion, VFW, AMVETS, Vietnam Veterans of America and Purple Heart Association, I speak not only for myself, but as a representative of those groups and their families, and those who cannot speak for themselves.
Again, I urge your support of this legislation.
