A 36-year-old Carson City construction worker will spend the next eight years in prison for attempting to sexually assault a 14-year-old girl.
James Alfred Marshall admitted to sexual improprieties with the girl and told the court he was filled with regret about what his victim had to endure.
The plea to attempted sexual assault was part of a deal with prosecutors that dropped a more serious charge of sexual assault and lewdness with a child.
He was arrested in August for actions that took place in March of this year. At the time he was already serving a 360-day sentence for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstructing a peace officer.
The sex-related conviction was his second.
In asking Judge Michael Fondi to impose a strict sentence, prosecutor Jason Woodbury said "It's one thing to be a pedophile, but it's another thing to act on it."
Marshall will spend 20 years maximum behind. He will also be subject to lifetime supervision.
