Mistletoe to open at Carson Airport

A new aroma will fill the air at the Carson City Airport.

John and Christi Haning will be the managers of the restaurant, named the Mistletoe Carson Airport Cafe. After a health inspection, the restaurant opened on Wednesday morning.

Mistletoe is the state flower of Oklahoma, and the Hanings owned a restaurant in Tulsa, Okla., until the late 1980s.

Since coming to the Carson area in October 1998, John Haning has been director of guest relations at the Hyatt Regency at Incline Village, while Christi Haning has been in property management in the Lake Tahoe area.

She says her heart is still in the business, as she enjoys cooking.

The specialty of the Mistletoe Carson Airport Cafe will be homemade food. Burgers, breakfast with homemade biscuits and gravy, brown beans and cornbread and sweet potato pie for dessert are a few of the items to be featured on the menu.

Breakfast will start at 6:30 in the morning, with lunch following at 11 on Mondays through Saturdays.

The restaurant was closed in early June 1999. An ad offering the restaurant for lease was placed after Graves Lane was opened and it was rented in mid-December, said building owner Dan Vidovich, who recently retired from his physical therapy practice. He assumed the lease of both the restaurant and the cocktail lounge.

The cocktail lounge has been named the Windsock Lounge.

Pamela Rizzio will continue as lounge manager. She has been in beverage service for the past 25 years, having worked at the Eldorado, Carson Nugget, Ormsby House and in Prescott, Ariz.

She is planning to feature entertainment on weekends and eventually on week nights. Also, she will be offering a happy hour with "friendly" prices and daily drink specials.
