The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is seeking nominations to fill several positions on its three Resource Advisory Councils (RACs) in Nevada.

Bob Abbey, BLM Nevada state director, said that the nomination process will remain open until the close of business on April 20.

In this area, four positions are up for appointment on the Sierra Front-Northwestern Great Basin Resource Advisory Council. Those four positions are for Archaeology, Public at Large, Recreation and Transportation and Rights of Way.

This RAC generally meets in the Reno-Carson City-Winnemucca area.

Any nominations should be forwarded to Mark Struble, BLM Carson City Field Office, 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City 89701.

Individuals may nominate themselves or other persons.

Nominations should include a brief biographical information sheet on the nominee.

The nominee should have demonstrated a commitment to collaborative resource decision making.

All submission must include letters of reference from the represented interest or organization.

Nominees must be residents of Nevada or of that portion of California where public land is managed by the BLM's Carson City Field Office.

Members are appointed for three-year terms, unless they are replacing a member who left the Council before that term expired.

The Councils meet several times a year, usually quarterly, and they advise the Secretary of the Interior, through the BLM field managers and the state director, on the management of the public lands within a council's geographic area.

It has been the practice in Nevada to hold one joint meeting of all three Nevada RACs in Reno in October of each year.

The councils advise the BLM on such matters as land use planning, range improvements, and standards for the ecological health of the public lands.

For information call the BLM Nevada State Office at 861-6586.
