Obituary: Byron Clark

A memorial service for Byron Leroy Clark, 68, a Carson City resident for the past 31 years, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Fuji Park in Carson City.

Mr. Clark died Sept. 29, 1999, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born May 27, 1931, in Wray, Colo., to Ralph and Elizabeth Jones Clark.

He married Margaret "Peggy" Bader June 22, 1951, in Loveland, Colo.

He graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1954.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in California.

Mr. Clark had his own saddle-making business in Carson City for 15 years, Clark Saddlery. He flew commercial helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft for 18 years. He was a co-founder of the Carson City Sheriff's Mounted Posse and had been a member for 22 years. He was a member of the National Pony Express and co-founder and an active member of the Nevada Chapter of the Pony Express since 1982. He served as president for two separate terms as well as various other offices. He carried the Olympic Torch by horseback in 1996 in Nebraska.

He served in the U.S. Army for five years as a test pilot.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph, and daughter, Barbara Doke, in 1988.

Among his survivors are his wife, Peggy, son, Kelly and daughter, Sue Howard, all of Carson City; mother, Elizabeth Cramer of Loveland; brother, Robert Starman, of Loveland; grandchildren, John, Kacey and Dustin Clark, Michael, Denny and Bobby Howard, Richard Doke and Peggy Redican; great-grandson, Thomas "Jake" Redican and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.
